Comedic Collaboration
In one of my introductory graduate classes, we were each tasked with writing a white paper about anything that had to do with our industry we felt needed improvement and implementation of deep work.
Being that I want to focus on working in the entertainment industry, specifically, late-night comedy writing, I decided to delve into what could be hindering work in that area. I found that lack of sleep was the biggest downside to writing for a comedy show. Writers, along with other crew members, spend countless hours creating content for the upcoming shows. They stay from early in the morning until way too late at night every single day. One thing that struck me, was that people were falling asleep at the wheel and getting into accidents because of how hard they worked that day.
I decided to write my white paper about how deep work and more collaboration would lead to less hours at your job and more hours resting or spending time taking care of basic human needs. Just because you are spending less time there, though, doesn’t mean you are any less productive. In fact, you are more productive in a shorter amount of time with deep work by your side.
