Flippers
This poem focuses on the power of childhood imagination, and how it can take you anywhere, even to the deep sea.
As a child, I loved to create worlds and play in the land of pretend. My imagination ran wherever it wanted to, and I enjoyed the ride every time. When I was around eight years old, I got a pair of scuba diving flippers and immediately began imagining my life if I were a mermaid. My pool was the ocean, and my sister and I were the mythical creatures that lived below the surface. I would stay in the water until my hands got pruny and my parents called us out for lunch.
Swimming and picturing that underwater Atlantis was one of my favorite things to do in the summer, and now, I wish I could go back to that time.
I hope you can see this in my poem, and I hope it brings you back to a simpler time too.
