Bittersweet

This poem is based on childhood memories of my sister and me playing outside in our backyard. We ruled the swing-set, the hill, and the pool area. Our imagination joined us in playtime and made us memories to last a lifetime. Now that we are older and more mature, we look back on these times, fondly, yet sadly. Time runs like a bandit, but that doesn’t mean it has to steal the good parts of your life from you.

My goal with this poem was to open a section of your brain that you have forgotten about. A section that holds your childhood adventures. We all have similar memories to what this poem focuses on, we just store them deep in our minds. I hope that with this poem, I was able to find those for you, and make you remember the good times again.

A poem about growing pains and childhood memories, published in Z Publishing House’s “Connecticut’s Best Emerging Poets 2019” anthology.
