Vinny ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time for an interesting, comical kidnapping and interrogation with the bad half of Brooklyn’s mafia unit.
This play was produced off-Broadway in April 2019 as part of the Barrow Group’s annual New Play Festival.
SPECIAL DELIVERY is a short, comedic, 10-minute play about an interrogation gone wrong. The stakes are heightened each time Vinny denies the torturer information, even though he may not have been there.
This idea came to me when the Quinnipiac Theater Department teamed up with NYC’s Barrow Group for their annual New Play Festival. Seven scripts get picked, and each gets to be put on on the Barrow Group’s stage. As part of the rules, as a group, you pick the location the script takes place in and the theme of the play. Then, you must create a 10-minute play comprised of two to three characters.
This year’s theme was “survival” and it had to take place in a warehouse. I had immediately thought of a mafia hostage situation. Being that comedy is my strong point, I decided to make it so that the kidnapper got the wrong guy. It ended up being chosen to be put on during the festival as one of the seven plays.
Along with my play getting chosen, I applied and got the position of directing another play going to the festival as well.
