A delusional man on a stranded island befriends a talking coconut that falls next to him under his designated palm tree, which leads to his ultimate demise.

COCO-NUTS is a short, 10-minute play about being stranded on a deserted island with only your mind and a coconut as something to talk to. This dark comedy was interesting to write, being that one character was an inanimate object… or so the protagonist thought.

I thought of this topic because I was looking to write something with higher, crazier stakes than anything I had written in the past. I decided to go for a Castaway vibe and instead of Wilson, the protagonist starts talking to a coconut. The one difference, though… the coconut talks back.

Being that one of the requirements was to only have two characters, I made the conversation between the man and the coconut become the focus of the show. There is also a surprise ending that you or the stranded man never saw coming.
